I've begun to observe that my frame rate fluctuates a lot. Sometimes it drops below 45-50 fps when I start a game, while other times it stays stuck around 75 fps in the same situations. This problem appears across all games—whether it's state of decay, GTA V, The Witcher 3, Forza Horizon 4, Sea of Thieves, Metro Exodus, Fallout 4, Skyrim, etc. Restarting the game occasionally resolves the issue, but it doesn't always work. I'm not sure what could be behind this, maybe something related to temperatures?

I'm using a laptop and always turn on the maximum fan speed. The GPU temperatures stay between 78-85°C, while the CPU reaches highs in the 80s and 90s, though it isn't overclocked. My GPU is a 1080 and my CPU is an i7 7820hk.

It seems like there might be some confusion. Could you clarify what you mean by "thermal throttling imo"?

That's what I'm considering, but the unusual part is that it doesn't occur consistently. I should note that too—alt tabbing occasionally resolves the problem.

It seems like your system could be lagging because of high temperatures. Make sure the thermal pastes are in good condition and consider replacing them if necessary.
