Back then things were fairly average. I figure the current price I see is what I find by checking completed sales on eBay. These listings add some worth, but sometimes sellers walk away since they found a better offer elsewhere. A 3080 matches a 3950xt. A 6700xt is similar to a 3070. I located an XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT with 16GB GDDR6 graphics for $475.00 US dollars.
Great choice. I spent a bit over $500 on a SWFT that’s similar in speed but has less effective cooling—something I’m covering myself for. I’ve already tweaked the fans, and it’s handling fine. Still concerned about needing to push the system hard in other titles, which is why I’m exploring a hybrid AIO setup. I run it heavily undervolted and power-limited with fss at 100Hz for a small Tina on 4K, and everything runs smoothly. The Merc model has a lot more cooling, so you won’t face the same issues I did. Those units are huge, though—almost didn’t fit after installing the bracket. Overall, it works well even if it makes the card longer.
A few months after purchase, how you feel about the XFX cards is still forming. You're considering buying them but worried about the coil whine.
I haven’t noticed any coil whine. The unit I received featured extremely loud fans, which contradicts their intended use. Buying it used might explain the wear. The seller seems to specialize in this area, but if coil whine bothers you, a lot of Whitney cards are available on eBay and acquiring one isn’t ideal. I found several 3080tis listings priced lower than the 6800xts, which is what I got. Perhaps my hearing has changed. I’m getting older. One peculiar feature of my card is that the fan header lacks a jack—just pins protrude from the board, making it hard to determine orientation. They’re huge, and the bracket included with mine is quite large. I added another 3/4” to the back, which made fitting difficult. Another seller mentioned they handle coil whine issues, but I haven’t detected any audible noise on my card. One of the bracket’s oddities is that removing the shroud shortens it by about 2 inches, yet a 25mm case fan still fits perfectly without it. Playing a small Tina at high volume with ultimate view and fixed frequency at 100fps gave me consistent 4K performance—very smooth. It’s the strongest card I’ve owned so far. The 3080ti is more potent despite lower memory, though I’m unsure if 8 or even 10GB cards will suffice. They’re also cheaper than the XFX SWFT 6800xts. Updated February 5, 2023 by Bombastinator
