Hello, I just set up Kali 4.18 with a Mediatek MT7630E chipset and need guidance on downloading and installing the drivers. My laptop can’t connect to a wired network due to a damaged Ethernet port. I installed it quickly—under an hour—and have limited Linux experience. Can you walk me through the steps?

1) Avoid installing Kali; it's meant for live testing only. Misusing it can lead to issues.
2) Sorry for the inconvenience, but if you're new to Linux, Kali isn't the right choice either. It's designed for penetration testing, not for learning Linux fundamentals. Try Debian or Ubuntu instead and check the instructions on the GitHub page Tsuki shared.

this is very true. Kali is not meant to be used as a full blown install.(performance is also shit) if you want to use a pentesting distro fulltime, consider Parrot Security OS instead. its basically just debian with all the tools installed

It seems you're asking about choosing an operating system for learning Linux. Would you like some suggestions on which OS is best suited for that purpose?

If the problem is your internet link, you can set up a phone tethering connection. After finishing, perform those steps: update packages, install git, clone the repository from the given URL, build it with make, and restart the system. Edited February 14, 2019 by Guest

If needed, you can install it using sudo apt install build-essential

Kali isn't meant for a desktop system. Using it is similar to running a Windows server rather than Windows 10 Home. Consider using Ubuntu instead.
