i am just starting out with amd, and from what i understand, the 7900x3d has two ccds meaning six with l3 cache while the other six lack l3 cache. in comparison, the 7800x3d has 8 plus 3d v cache. i believe the 7900x3d is better because it has 12 cores even though the l3 cache isn't present in both ccds. however, it uses a non-3d v cache with six cores. so in summary, it has 12 cores with 3d v cache versus 8 cores with 3d v cache.

7900x3D, 6+6 setup. Six cores with access to 3D cache, while the remaining half doesn't. For gaming purposes, it's advantageous when all cores can utilize the 3D cache. Avoiding the need to divide data allocation would also be beneficial.

It's more about the setup. 7800X3D is a monolithic design, while 7900X3D isn't. It features distinct I/O and two separate CPU chips, which results in higher memory latency because signals must pass an additional route—from I/O to the CPU chiplet.

7800X3D isn't made entirely of one piece; it contains an IOD and a CCD. In contrast, 7900x3d has a single IOD and two CCDs.
