This cannot be covered because it doesn’t offer a neater look. Older versions were covered, and the same applies to the ROG astral 5080.

It was a design decision by the GPU AIB makers to release heat from that region on air-cooled GPUs. If you examine custom watercooled GPUs with a backplate, they remain hidden. I have observed older models having them covered. Previous GPU generations didn't receive the same level of power delivery to the GPU die as they do now.
