I notice several players using 900 series cards and I'm curious about the reasons behind it beyond the recent Aaa games.

Since 50X0 represents a mortgage payment and 32GB of DDR5 is like a small car, it's not just about the monthly cost—it's about the overall investment.

It suggests most folks are happy with their current setup. You don’t need a 5080 to play at 1080p, and I know the 900 series still holds value even if people underestimate it. You could easily upgrade to an Intel Arc as well. It seems people tend to favor older games.

32GB of DDR5 memory might be exchanged for two 2025 Yugo models. Not everyone who owns a computer uses them as an alternative to a Nintendo Game Boy.

A few rows from column A, some entries in column B. My wife enjoys all modern games but she has a 970 because that was the budget we had at the time. It still functions well for 1080p in a casual play style.

These cards are affordable and work for all new releases because of DX12 compatibility.

They’re content with what they have—let them be. I refresh my setup roughly every ten years unless it fails, which is uncommon. You can savor your old gear while the rest of the market ignores it. A win for both sides.

Why did you check if you had your answer? How many individuals actually own a 900 series card? I don't think there are enough of them to be worth mentioning.

This retro choice is quite a statement. People often run 900 series cards because they’ve proven themselves, and realistically there aren’t too many things they can’t handle with a few trade-offs. They’re not necessarily aiming for ultra-realistic graphics or ray tracing, but most of the games I play work perfectly on a 970. A few reasons why someone with a 900 series card might be cautious about upgrading include cost, the power supply demands have skyrocketed—so does heat output (isn’t insulation meant to keep things cool?), concerns over 12Vhfr, and the fear of missing out on new AAA releases that only appear after launch. Not everyone buys the newest titles when they drop, especially if they’re just a basic game that doesn’t stand out. Some of us enjoy specific gaming experiences, and others prefer titles that focus on solid gameplay rather than flashy visuals. For example, GTA V runs smoothly on a 970, and there’s no GTA 6 yet because of Rockstar’s unique approach to game management. Some of us notice patterns—like seeing two dusters in a row—and assume everyone’s stuck with older, simpler cars.
