Your CPU usage display varies in Linux. A full 100% reflects maximum utilization of a single thread, not overall CPU load.

Linux tracks CPU activity as a share of available cores. For a 12-core system, a workload consuming 1200% would equate to full utilization in Windows, while 600% would translate to 50%, and so on. The same pattern applies to your machine. Regardless, performance is usually irrelevant.

Htop displays the system components while Glances provides a summary of all cores functioning at 40% or higher.

It makes sense, you have four CPU cores with each at 40% or higher. Htop and Glances both display the total CPU usage.

These processors come with dual cores and hyperthreading, making their performance typical for such tasks. For video playback, the system likely uses a GPU, and you should specify the codecs being supported.

Usually Chrome and Firefox consume similar CPU usage—just a small amount when idle. On Windows, they peak between 5% and 20%, but sometimes both run together and demand significant processing power. On Linux, I can’t just overlook this performance impact.

The CPU usage isn't behaving as expected on Linux. Google Chrome indicates hardware acceleration is enabled, while Linux in on-demand mode displays a small Intel icon.
