Why is my video rendering or YouTube playback using the CPU instead of the GPU, and how can I fix it?
today i was working on editing a video and noticed it was relying on my CPU instead of the GPU. my CPU was at full capacity, so I wondered how to make the GPU active during rendering or conversion. I’m unsure why this happened before—usually my laptop handled both CPU and GPU smoothly. Sometimes YouTube causes lag when trying to run 2K at 60fps because it uses the CPU under heavy load. I realized I don’t need to stream at 2K60fps, just want to make the GPU useful instead of just playing games.
The sole explanation for its automatic functionality previously was updating the drivers with standalone versions; however, laptop drivers are specifically designed to ensure compatibility. Now you must rely on applications that allow selecting the GPU during settings.
