I regularly use an Acer Aspire 3 with 4GB RAM that I recently upgraded to 8GB. Last night, while browsing Chrome, a single tab crashed and the program reported low memory. Checking Task Manager showed 91% usage even when idle. Running Windows' built-in memory tool found no issues. After resetting the PC, which reinstalled Windows and cleared apps, the problem disappeared. Anyone know possible causes or ways to avoid this again?

I suspect a virus or malicious software is present.

Use Chrome. Erase the browser cache and history, then shut it down and restart it.

Re-setting windows also erased any logs or diagnostic tools. I faced an issue with Windows 10 where RAM usage increased slowly and disk writes kept happening because of a log-file error. I had to remove the log files, delete a corrupt system file, and restart to let Windows create a new one. The problem was resolved afterward.

It's too late now, but you had to try to figure out the issue while it was still possible.
