I reside in a remote location, so I’m aware my internet speed won’t be optimal. Recently, I’ve experienced a significant drop from 25 mbps to just 5 mbps, which isn’t suitable for gaming. My ping is around 500 ms and it’s extremely frustrating. Please note the distinction between megabits per second and megabytes per second.

It might be influenced by weather, particularly strong winds. If you've previously traced routes, try a new one and check both speed and the number of connections—changes in routing or more hops can significantly impact performance.

I use the terms correctly as bits and MB. I’m checking the assumptions here to confirm accuracy. Are you connected to a wired internet connection? Have you disabled your wireless settings in the BIOS? The data comes from Speedtest.net, but I’m also considering other sources.

Cyberat mentioned Mbps/MBps, referring to bits or bytes per second. We require more details about your network setup. Is the connection via cable, DSL, satellite, or wireless (specifically Wi-Fi from your home to the ISP's access point)? Regarding your device, is it wired or wireless? Are you on a data plan that limits speed, possibly throttled based on usage? Does performance vary throughout the day? Have you verified the connection from other devices and across different computers to confirm it's your internet service, not your computer itself?

I’m using a wireless adapter for my internet connection. It worked well for about two to three months at around 25 Mbps, but it slowed down to 10 Mbps or less. The issue was consistent across my brother’s PC too. I ran tests and found the same problem. After resetting the router, it still dropped to a poor 0.90 Mbps—worse than before. I recall this happened before when we replaced the router, which improved things.

First contact your ISP to confirm the issue isn't on their side. Ensure they can retrieve any lost accounts after a server reset. Check whether the routers are yours or part of an ISP combo setup. If it's your personal router, there may be an ISP-related problem. Request a technician visit to diagnose the issue at your home.
