Why is my GPU usage low in GTA V?
I don't understand why this occurs, but my GPU usage stays below 60% in GTA, which really impacts my performance. I'm playing on a laptop, and although it's accurate that laptop GPUs tend to be slower than desktop ones, it still shouldn't drop that low.
Here are the details of my system:
GTX 1650, Ryzen 7 4800h, 8 GB RAM.
I tried the following:
- Checked if my GPU drivers are updated
- Confirmed fans are set to whisper mode and performance is optimized
- Verified all drivers are current
- Ensured it isn't a CPU bottleneck (never exceeded 50%, and usage is around 20% during GTA V, but I see 40–50 FPS, tested across all settings)
I just need to figure out what's causing this and why it happens. I really want that smooth 60 fps average.
Did you verify the heat levels?
Gaming often causes laptops to run warmer, leading to noticeable drops in CPU and GPU efficiency as temperatures rise.
If your GPU usage is minimal, it's probable you're CPU constrained.
What is the CPU utilization?
Laptop CPUs, especially those from AMD, generally offer less performance compared to desktop models.
GTA 5 is a console version that isn't well-optimized and demands significant CPU power for smooth operation.
It seems like you're wondering if there might be some inconsistency with the presence of a vsynch element.
It's a premium mobile CPU, matching or exceeding the performance of an i7 10750h. I reviewed some benchmarks and videos on YouTube, and I expected over 70 fps (using the same mobile GPU but with a slower CPU). Minecraft with shaders didn't reach that mark.
