Why is my ethernet cable cutting out sometimes?
Why is my ethernet cable cutting out sometimes?
Basically my internet stops working right when I play D4 or Destiny2, but it works fine when I look at YouTube or check Google. Sometimes the router reconnects itself after the problem starts, but that still doesn't fix things because these games need to stay online all the time. My motherboard is an Aorus Elite B550, and it comes with a Realtek gaming card controller. After lots of searching, I bought a TP-Link adapter just like my old one. The new one has the exact same problem. In the Event Viewer, I see lots of warnings and errors (link provided).
Here are all the steps I tried:
- Reset my router.
- Used Windows tools to fix things up.
- Cleaned Windows, BIOS, and the chipset completely.
- Tried both old and new Realtek drivers for each network card.
- Fiddled with power-saving settings on both cards by turning them off a lot.
- Created a firewall exception for IPv6, but that didn't work; I even tried disabling it fully without success.
- Changed my DNS to Google Cloudflare's servers, then flushed the DNS command.
- Turned off TCP/IP Offload.
- Swapped out the old 5e ethernet cable with a new CAT6 one and swapped cables between router ports.
Here is what my ipconfig/all showed me:
- My DNS Suffix Search List says "lan" for both cards.
- The Ethernet adapter shows Media State as disconnected, but Autoconfiguration is on.
- I have IPv4 Address 192.168.1.88 (Preferred) with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a lease from June 7th at 3:11 pm until the evening.
The other card says DHCP is enabled, Autoconfiguration is on, and it has an IPv4 address starting with 48-22-54-6F-54-BD. The DNS servers point to Google's numbers (1.1.1.1) and Cloudflare's (1.0.0.1), but NetBIOS over Tcpip is also enabled.
Help me out guys, I am so tired of this... do I have a network issue or should I just buy a new motherboard?
I forgot I replaced my old wire with a new CAT6 one, so I updated this message to mention it.
BTW - your DHCP lease time is really too short, just 90 minutes. Change it up to something like 8 hours.
Yes, it does. I have also enabled Advanced EEE and Auto Disable Giagbit. Other options like Energy Efficient Ethernet, Green Ethernet, interrupt moderation, jumbo frame, wake on magic packet (when system is running), and wake on pattern match are all turned off now because they were disabled from the start. I just made a list of what shows up as disabled in the advanced configure menu.
