Why is my CPU slow? (i7 6700k)
I own this custom CPU cooler, not the standard Intel model. The link is here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCTIC-Alpine-1...B09SHV7LZ3. I also adjusted the cooler settings in the BIOS, which has improved performance slightly—now it runs at 50°C at idle instead of 55–60°C.
Checking the product page for details on performance and reviews.
I'll place the pins accurately. The thermal paste you used is likely a generic brand, and spreading it evenly is a good technique.
This processor is creating excessive heat that the heatsink can't manage. Note your overclock configurations, then return to standard clock speeds. Consider a slight underclock if you wish. This should help until you install a more effective cooler. It might also boost performance since it won’t throttle due to overheating.
I value the assistance from those here, but at this stage you seem to be asking how to transform my 1.7 turbodiesel Civic into a Ferrari and why it keeps overheating when I engage the turbo boost. You’re essentially trying to defy the laws of physics. This processor is outdated and slow even for a basic GPU like the RX7600. It’s wiser not to spend money on a cooling solution but to save a bit and search for a second-hand AM4 board with something like a B450 motherboard and a Ryzen 5600. Usually, a B450 motherboard paired with a Ryzen 5600 and around 16GB of RAM can be found for about or less than $200 after a bit of effort.
I received a new CPU cooler—it's a big improvement, thanks everyone!
