I placed an order for a new cooler online and will check its arrival soon to compare with the previous one. The deepcool gammaxx 400 has been recommended as good, so we’ll see how it performs.

Theoretically there's always that option, just solve it with brute force lol But the engineer in me is not totally satisfied by that. By the basic laws of physics, temperature is a result of heat output + cooling power. One of those must be out of whack to cause this issue, and that must itself have some yet unknown cause. Even if the new cooler keeps temps under control, that underlying issue won't have been solved, just covered up.

It's 21:53 now, and I need to wake up early for exams. When I come back, I'll explore the bios and other stuff, and I'll keep you posted on any updates so far.

the stock's thermal compound might be between the IHS and the die

It might happen, though it would be unusual for the two CPUs to behave differently, and the reason must lie in the cause.

It really doesn't work, 2500K is welded, which is why they can push them to 4.5ghz using standard Intel cooling solutions.

I think the cooler isn't installed properly. I should take it out and look at the four mounting spots for any damage. When I first put in the i7, it took longer than expected to get the cooler in place. After mounting it correctly, temperatures stayed high which caused the chip to slow down. Upon closer inspection, one of the four points was broken, preventing good contact with the chip. Fixing that damaged arm allowed a smooth installation and normal temperatures afterward.
