I chose to test a bench on my i7 11700K using CPU-Z and was let down by the single-thread results. Anyone have any suggestions about why that happened? Multi-thread performance looks okay.

We’re referring to an 8% variation in this test, which isn’t a major issue for one benchmark. How many times did you run the test? One thing to note is your RAM speeds appear to be quite low. Which RAM model are you using?

Your temperatures are coming in nicely. Also, could you share your power consumption details when things are under load?

This single-channel memory could be affecting you somewhat.

I'm working with an Alienware prebuilt that uses DDR4, and I think I upgraded from the base 3200 MHz but can't recall it. I opened the case once and saw it taking up just one slot, which could be affecting performance.

Single-channel performance would severely impact speed. As an Alienware user, I’m uncertain about regular XMP support. You might need kits with JEDEC timings, which will be slower. Even if you opt for JEDEC, adding a second stick is recommended. Single-channel RAM isn’t ideal.

I recommend considering a different benchmark than the built-in CPU-Z tool, which isn't seen as very helpful. Slightly more practical options include a recent Cinebench release. Versions from R23 and earlier don't show much change in RAM performance. 2024 is available but probably won't affect single-thread tasks much. I could compare it with my 11700k, though I disabled turbo mode.

There isn't much I can do about it, is there?
