Why is my computer not staying set to run at higher speeds?
I've done enough with all this noise. A few years ago, I built my first PC using this website for build advice. I spent about $1.1k on it and I love it. I haven't played games there much lately, but recently I have been playing a lot of them. The problem is that since I made the PC, I keep needing to restart it to play games smoothly. It runs games at pretty high settings. But it doesn't stay like that. The FPS gets stuttering and jumping around. The overclock settings I set don't save and don't stick. I put it on 3200 but it seems to randomly go back down to 2133. Now, while I was playing Apex Legends running pretty well, got off the PC and started playing SpellBreak instead. The low FPS stuttering came back. This is my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ddWYjc. I have had this problem for too long now, so it's time I find out why. Please help me. Thank you.
When you change something in BIOS, always check it first to make sure it works. If the POST does not like the setting, everything is reset. Just try changing XMP or hit F1/F2/whatever to get into BIOS and see what happens. Another thing is that Windows needs a reboot every day. One day I could play games fine, launch Division 2 easily. Next day, it won't launch at all until I reboot. If you are unsure, just reboot anyway.
That is the question: if something is set up in Bios, does that BIOS do a memory test right when you turn on the computer? If it finds the RAM clock unstable, it will reset the whole system to default settings instead of letting things break. On top of that, even though you might have set clocks using Ryzen Master before starting the computer, Ryzen Master won't automatically keep those times going after you restart.
Whenever you set something up in BIOS, always look to make sure it worked the way you wanted. If the computer doesn't like your change, it wipes it back immediately. For example, if you changed XMP settings, just hit F1 or F2 to get into BIOS and verify again. The same goes with Windows; it needs a reboot sometimes. One day, I can play my games fine. The next day, Division 2 won't start until I restart the machine. If you're not sure, always reboot.
