I just observed that several brands such as Corsair, Seasonic, EVGA and be quiet! Are we no longer producing 400W PSUs in the Indonesian PC market. Could this be due to increased power requirements or simply not being economically viable to make them in 2024?

The price ranges for those inexpensive PSUs have consistently been poor due to various factors such as packaging, inventory, customer support, marketing, shipping, and similar expenses. Additionally, aftermarket PCs consume significantly more power, which limits the number of customers who can profit from small gains. This issue isn't limited to PSUs but affects all PC components. Although some traditional motivations exist, this contributes to the decline of the entry-level GPU market; integrated GPUs have become sufficiently advanced to capture much of the niche for these low-margin discrete GPUs, making them less appealing for most businesses. These types of GPUs will still be seen in...

It seems like you're questioning the reasoning behind choosing a 400W model over a more expensive 500-550W one.

A lot of us are still relying on a third-generation Intel CPU or even the LGA 775, paired with the GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 550, and it seems we might never upgrade it. The cost of a 500-550W power supply is significantly higher here. Therefore, the market now offers rebranded Chinese PSUs that often lack reliability and proper safety features.

The margins for those inexpensive PSUs have consistently been poor due to various factors such as packaging, inventory, customer service, advertising, shipping, and more. With aftermarket PCs requiring significantly more power, the number of customers for these cheap PSUs diminishes, making it hard to achieve small profits. This issue extends beyond PSUs to all PC components. Although some old-fashioned greed plays a role, it contributes to the decline of the entry-level GPU market. Integrated GPUs have become sufficiently advanced to capture much of the market that once relied on these low-margin discrete units, leaving them less appealing for most businesses. You may still encounter these types of GPUs with prebuilt configurations, but they remain valuable when major suppliers like Dell or HP commit large orders.

As the power needs of essential PC components like the CPU, GPU, and SSD continue to rise, the need for solutions under 600+ W is diminishing. On the other hand, by adjusting the PSU slider to 400 W on partpicker, you can find several options available, many from trustworthy manufacturers.

Enermax offers a variety of power supplies under 500w.
Together with Corsair, it's one of the top brands for PSUs.
