Why is ghost key press appearing on your PC keyboard?
I recently had to replace the keyboard on my desktop PC. Since then, random/ghost key presses occur immediately after booting or occasionally later. I've tried everything: swapped with another brand new keyboard and the issue continued. I also tested it on a different machine (laptop) and found no random key presses at all. This suggests the problem is likely with my desktop PC itself. I bypassed the existing operating system by using a bootable pendrive and the issue persisted, indicating it's not a software-related problem. Could you help identify the cause of this issue?
Have you experimented with all USB ports?
I've switched to a different brand of keyboard and the issue continues.
Could you provide the model number of that keyboard?
Power supply unit: Value Top 200W
It might be wise to upgrade your PSU if you're not ready to disassemble your PC.
The thread has been transferred from the Components section to the Computer Peripherals section.
Yeah, I've tested all USB ports and got the same results.
The keyboard is the Micropack K2208. (Same outcome with other new keyboards too)
I might switch the power supply, but could it be a PSU problem as well?
Note: This is my secondary PC, so I had to save some money.
This reminds me of dealing with a cat or ghost issue. You can verify your BIOS, but if you have a cat or other guest, it might disagree with the video evidence—suggesting you're not just stimming with a pen cap or drumsticks while figuring things out.
Great news about your SMB exploration; you got wild KeyIn trash. But maybe your voltages are stable and there are no systemd warnings about a VRM channel failing? Try adjusting one setting and test carefully to avoid extra keypresses. Happy hunting.
