Currently the 7800x stands out as the top choice since I work beyond gaming—covering CAD, solidworks, sketching, and Revit.

1.) 7800X3D offers superior gaming performance since it minimizes dependence on the scheduler compared to the 7950X3D, though the latter is often underperforms in many titles due to scheduling challenges.
2.) The 7950X excels as a workstation CPU thanks to its higher clock speeds. The 7950X3D performs well when functioning properly, providing a balanced approach for both gaming and workstation tasks, and has shown significant improvement since its launch. The 7900X3D continues to struggle considerably with scheduling problems.

Since older hardware is hard to find at fair prices, why choose the 9800X3D now?

It's still preferable compared to the 7950x3d, even though it's not easy to locate.

Choose a 7950x or the 9950x3d for better performance. The 7950x works well in games and also handles workstation tasks better than the 7950x3d, which can struggle with scheduling issues. The 9950x3d aims to improve the 7950x3d’s weaknesses in workstation tasks without relying solely on extra x3d cores. It won’t match the 9800x3d in gaming, but it’s a solid option otherwise. Unless you have an ultra-high-end GPU (like 7900xtx 4080super or better), this choice won’t change much. Just go with the 7950x.
