I’m confused about this. It seems like $10 is just a minimum for a skin, which makes sense since they’re like small upgrades. I get the emojis and the funny sounds—they add some fun. But why are skins so expensive? I also understand getting pic axes because they make different noises when swung. Still, it feels like people are being taken advantage of. It’s $10 for a few extra clothes, right? The battle pass is $10 for a bunch of items, but why focus on skins specifically?

I think this should be a status update. Anyways, people buy skins because they wanna look cool (the default skin doesn't look that great).

Since it looks great, it makes sense to invest if you can afford it.

Some individuals buy Fortnite because they enjoy the game, want to compete, or value its community aspects, despite seeing it as an expense. Others view it as unnecessary spending, especially when alternatives exist.

Epic Games has built a highly popular yet damaging community within their games. Without a skin you might face ridicule and be dismissed entirely, even if you're a skilled player. This mirrors how brands like Supreme, BAPE, Off-white, Yeezy can command exorbitant prices for their products. Also, regardless of your opinion, because Fortnite is free to play, its main audience consists of young children and teenagers who often lack a realistic understanding of value or the cost of in-game purchases. In an era dominated by microtransactions, the Razor and Blades approach works best—provide the weapon, then sell the armor, or here, offer Fortnite and collect skins.

They aim to impress others and possess financial resources. In my opinion, this represents proper monetization.

Only a few of these will ever be used again, especially since I might be able to create similar skins. Not as quickly, but still okay... it depends on who you know. I don’t know about you, but people at my school aren’t bullied for wearing off-brand clothes. But if you have big brands like Nike or Adidas, you’re more accepted.

In general, it means focusing on broader points rather than specific details.

Absolutely, no pressure to purchase a skin in Fortnite. Many streamers rely on a standard look, showcasing their talent without needing to buy anything. Using the default skin often earns respect rather than ridicule, and people tend to treat you differently based on your choice.
