Hello,
I followed this guide to compress my video successfully, but the bottom dark section is missing in the final result.
Screenshot before compression shows the original video, while the compressed version is displayed here: https://imgur.com/lJDwQbI.
My video was recorded with a phone, and in the original it had a darker bottom area because there was no light there—it wasn’t completely black.
My question is: why did the bottom darker area disappear after compression? I tried again and the same issue remains.
I also checked another video and its compressed version looks identical to the original before compression.
I think some settings in this guide might automatically remove the black bottom area and enlarge the non-black parts, but I’m not sure.
Thank you.

Handbrake uses the default setting
tries to remove black bars automatically.
To be aware, if the image is a 13 megapixel one at 4208 x 3120 resolution, adjusting it to the 1080p30 preset will lower quality more than anticipated unless cropping is done first.

How can I avoid Handbrake automatically cropping out the black bars in my videos?
Can you suggest ways to reduce the file size when recording with a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G?

When the preset defaults in Handbrake don't suit you, adjust them via the "Custom" option. Your device can capture videos at 1080p30 directly, which is a good starting point. If the file size remains excessive, Handbrake can re-encode it to reduce quality or increase compression with less impact on clarity.

Seems they relocated it to the "Dimensions" section
The cropping option is set to automatic by default
