Why cant I overclock my ram?
I recently purchased an 8GB of extra RAM for my PC. Prior to this, I had a 3000mgz overclock on my existing RAM. Now it’s no longer stable beyond 2400mgz. I’m receiving errors about driver failure and the correct driver path.
I have updated my BIOS with the latest driver for ASUS. Does my motherboard support this overclock, or is there an alternative solution?
Here’s the list of components I own:
Corsair CMK8GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 3000Mhz CL15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit, Black
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Desktop CPU - AM4/Hex Core/GHz/16MB/65W
Corsair CP-9020102-UK CX550M 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Po Wer Supply Unit
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1060 WF2 3GB GDDR5 PCI-E
Asus Prime B350M-A AMD DDR4 S-ATA 600 Micro ATX Motherboard - Black
That's limitation with processors with single IMC (Internal Memory Controller) with 2 memory channels, it's difficult/impossible to run at higher speeds when all channels are used. Only server CPUs are good at that, problem is not limited to Ryzen or AMD only but all processors including Intel.
Get 2x8GB sticks and you'll get your full speed out of them.
Memory is assured in the package provided. Different setups lack assurance of compatibility and may not function correctly when the PC starts. Since the previous memory versions haven't been verified with the current ones, you're taking the risk by trying it out without any assurances.
Memory purchased in unmatched pairs isn't assured to function properly together. Consider testing the clocks and using the highest frequency they support, which might be around 2400MHz.
Calvin7 :
Memory is guaranteed in the form sold. Other combinations have no guarantee to work together and no guarantees as to how they will work together if the PC boots up.
As the old memory has never been tested with the new memory, you are the first to test it without any guarantees.
The ram is the same company, both exactly the same.
I have them at 1.35 voltage. i may have to bum up the voltage.
