Why are my game frames per second suddenly dropping?
I've been gaming on this PC for a couple years now and this week it decided, after a recent Windows Update, 2 drop my FPS to six and seven in combat. It used to run 30 to 20 when there were a lot of other characters around but now it's unplayable. Its an HP laptop, win11 upgraded last year Processor Intel® Core i5-9300H CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.84 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor nvidia GTX 1050 - still recognizign OS as win10 (odd but noted) TS performed: ran updates again. checked current dirver version/searched online for updated drivers/checked windows update for updated drivers. ran sfc /scannow, no issues cleaned update folder ran defrag for external disk/ran optimize tool onall available discs set gpu to prefer max performance low latency mode to ultra Image scaling = won't turn on I can get up to 70FPS on the games i'm playing (STO, DCUO, Guild Wars1/2) until I get near a srite/NPC or other player. Then they drop to as low as 2, usually hovering 6-7 in combat. I would expect the GPU to ramp up and compensate but it jst sits there at 50 degrees and 20-40% usage, tops 41. CPU in task manager is not being over taxed, also sitting around 20-30%. It won't compensate for the extra rendering required (?), doesn't detect them or I'm just doing something stupid (most probable cause of current problem). So I can't solve this current PEBKAC error. thanks in advance.
