AM5 is still on track for future development. AMD has pledged to launch additional processors on AM5 through at least next year, 2025. AM4 is reaching its conclusion, with no further CPUs expected for it. The Ryzen 5800X3D represents the top performance AM4 could ever achieve. On the Intel side, the LGA1700 socket (used in 12th, 13th, and 14th generation chips) has reached end-of-life as well. Intel's upcoming 15th generation CPUs will be introduced on a new socket.
The phrase refers to planning a CPU upgrade based on current compatibility. If you already have an AM4 processor with a Zen 2 chip, you can move to Zen 3. However, if your system is already running Zen 3, there are no further upgrades possible. For platforms like AM4, newer CPUs aren't available unless you specifically purchase an older model. Zen 4 and beyond require AM5, so it's more practical to opt for AM5 now to allow future upgrades to Zen 5 or even Zen 6.
The right choice varies based on your timeline. For AM4 users, upgrading to a newer model is acceptable if you're already using it. If purchasing new, opt for AM5 since future upgrades will offer modern options. Choosing AM4 now and later may limit your availability of current processors. It mainly hinges on budget constraints and how far back you need to buy.
I don't understand the precise expenses, what the difference is between the 7600 and 5600. The main point is you'll be limiting your future performance by picking the 5600 now. 5800X3D offers the top gaming CPU available, surpassing the 7600X. For additional processing power elsewhere, the 5950X seems worth considering. If you're using AM5, you keep the possibility of further upgrades. Accepting your current hardware constraints means you still have solid choices at the right cost.
