Why am I seeing low FPS in Cyberpunk?
I reviewed several videos and it seems the GPU remains the main constraint most of the time. Frame rates tend to be similar whether using single or dual channel with 16GB configurations. It's noteworthy that even with identical memory, enabling dual channel causes Cyberpunk to use more RAM, indicating the engine favors it.
Frame times favor dual channel, which would result in a smoother experience with fewer stutters.
Most of the tests involved CPUs with higher core counts and hyperthreading. The best option would be to look for a used 9900K.
The footage mostly showed driving scenes, but this might not reflect the overall gameplay, which could be more CPU demanding. Combat calculations shouldn't be overlooked.
All jokes aside, my setup includes a 11900K and a 3070 FE. When I push the highest settings, DLSS is active, ray tracing is enabled, and I notice around 50+ frames with ray tracing off, which adds roughly 10 extra frames.
Personally, lowering the crowd density makes a big difference. Even when comparing 1080 to 1440 resolution, the impact isn’t noticeable. The game still has a lot of room for optimization, and I hope its continued popularity will drive engine improvements so this becomes the title everyone expected.
I wouldn't exchange a 9600K(F) for a 9900K. It offers two extra cores and significantly more heat, beyond what resellers are currently charging. Even with new places like Micro Center offering them cheaply, the difference remains noticeable. Plus, an H310 motherboard would struggle under the power demands of the 9900K and likely underperform.
I believe the game is acceptable. The drop in popularity seems linked to high expectations and excessive marketing spending, along with its weak performance on older consoles. Upgrading the CPU could benefit other games and future releases; I’d recommend it if you’re considering the cost. Think about the potential value of selling the i5-9600k. Six threads are now considered the baseline for AAA titles. You might also want to think about selling the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, and replacing them with something like a 12600K. It would cost more upfront but could be worth it in the long run. Also, check the motherboard thermal paste—it might be affecting the CPU’s performance.
Yes, I agree 110 on that. If you were going to go to the trouble to upgrade anyway, find something 12th gen Intel.
I would almost suggest holding out for the new Ryzen but being a new platform, taking a wait and see attitude for those first couple of months is prudent.
