I've been running Fallout 4 nonstop at the highest settings for a few days. I noticed lag in certain parts of Boston, even dropping to around 20 FPS at times. Using ASUS GPU Tweak and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, I saw my CPU usage hovering near 51% while my GPU stayed around 90% capacity. It puzzled me since neither part was at full load despite the slow performance. Checked temperatures—no thermal throttling on either device (GPU at 76°C, CPU between 45–50°C under stress). I also tested it with The Witcher 3, where my GPU usage stayed at 99%. This is really confusing. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Specs: i7-3770K @3.9GHz, EVGA 980 Ti SC ACX 2.0+ @1300MHz, 16GB (2x8) Crucial Ballistix 1600MHz DDR3.

Lag and low framerate are completely different issues. Lag depends on the internet, while framerate is determined by your device's capabilities. If you want better performance, try reducing the settings.

Give your PC the rest it requires.

Sorry senpai, the title has been updated. For a performance boost without visible changes, consider adjusting settings like brightness or contrast slightly.

I believe you misinterpreted my message. I wasn't saying I completely stopped playing for a few days; just that whenever I took my computer out of sleep, I'd start playing the game. My beast seems to handle rest well—it's been through much worse.

It's a common issue in certain games. I can run them at full settings with 1440p and 144Hz, but they still slow down noticeably when entering new areas. Large loading screens often cause this problem.

Your system isn't leveraging its maximum capacity because the GPU is constantly running at full capacity. This can happen when other applications or processes consume excessive resources, preventing the GPU from operating efficiently.
