Why am I getting lag?
It has been happening for a few weeks now. I have a 250Mbps internet package that has always worked well, even during peak usage (I’m aware the advertised speeds rarely match reality, but consistently around 200 Mbps works fine for gaming and other devices). However, I haven’t tried anything to fix the lag. I’ve installed a Ping booster program to check if it helps, but it hasn’t made any difference.
Take my last COD match for instance—connected to a London server (I’m in the UK). I recorded a ping of 65, jitter of 8.1, and no packet loss, which seemed decent at first. Yet I was still experiencing lag and freezing issues!
Is the problem with the games themselves? My ISP? My PC?
It doesn’t seem to matter whether I’m playing on a particular game or server—I’ve tested Germany servers with Battlefield 5 & 4, as well as various EU servers with Tarkov.
At this point, I’m really frustrated. It’s making every online game I play difficult, which is the only way I stay connected with my friends during lockdown. >.
I connected directly via a wired link from the router to the PC, with only the TV (wired) and one mobile device (wireless) on the network. There are no other applications running on the PC while I was gaming, except Discord. I don't use a VPN, and my average ping was about 30 last month.
