UPDATE: The computer stayed on for 7 hours. It's strange because the problem happened even after switching from T1 memory to T2. CPU temperatures look okay. I closed every program I was using and waited about 30 seconds per click, just like that delay is really bad. But closing all those programs didn't stop it either. Task Manager showed Chrome and Steam used way too much memory, but once I closed them, the lag kept going for another half hour. Processes were only at 1% usage, and the memory was back down to 18%. My drivers are current. The Event Viewer shows nothing when the problem started. 😞 The mouse works fine with zero delay, but clicking and typing and opening windows all take 30 seconds each time. When I restart it normally, everything is okay... except having to force a restart and still getting this big lag. So if you can help me find out what's causing this, that would be great! 😞
Check out Resource Monitor and Process Explorer in Microsoft (it's free). Take a look around, especially before you start playing games, and check during your gaming sessions too. Alright, I have Process Explorer and Resource Monitor open. What is each one showing me right now? Since when did they start lagging so much that I need to jump straight into what feels wrong? Just all the columns are available for me to see? I was on a Discord call with my buddy recently while playing this game again. (Mine Craft - can't write the name together or it gets marked as spam) My CPU usage was 6%. My RAM was 15% GPU on Task Manager was 5%. Nothing looks out of place here. While talking to my friend, he can hear me fine with no lag while this is happening. Not a single thing was wrong with our voice call. BUT- it takes thirty seconds for every single action on my PC. Click a button? Thirty seconds later the click happens. I am not sure what to do at this point because ending processes also doesn't seem to help.
How old is this Windows install, and how much trouble will there be backing things up and starting over? That is exactly what you need right now. With a fresh, well-updated system, figuring out whether the problem is with your computer or your programs will become much simpler.
Oh well, neither Resource Monitor nor Process Explorer gets me right to the problem spot. These tools help pick and sort info, but it's you who have to look closely to find who might be causing trouble. Just use one tool at a time so things don't get mixed up or slow down too much... here is the deal with reading back: "I set Java to 5GB of memory." Why does this thing run and what about that huge amount? Let Windows handle managing your own memory. Stop killing off processes unless you are sure what they do and if it really started the issue. That's a good idea, or else you might make it worse. For now, try using "dism" and "sfc /scannow" to see if Windows can fix things on its own. Uninstall everything and start fresh without any third-party tools or installers. For Minecraft - where can I find the original version? Maybe it has bugs and needs reinstalling too. Or, as we said before, if your system is really messed up in some way, a total clean restart might be needed.
I am watching over that problem too. I'm using Mine Craft's Java version and it forces you to pick an amount of RAM. It comes straight from the mojang website. You told me to leave Mine Craft on when this happens, right? I will check the resource monitors if things go wrong. I ran dism and sfc /scannow. I will update anything that shows up. All my drivers are current, so I am going to reinstall them all. I don't use any third party programs because I do not trust them personally. When I add a space between them it works again and lets me post normally.
