Last weekend I completed a full Gen14 upgrade: i9-14900K, Z790 Dark Hero, 48GB DDR5-7200 RAM, etc.
A part of the changes involved a new case and parts: Corsair 7000D Airflow, Corsair RM1200 SHIFT PSU, Corsair iCUE LINK fans, and an H170i cooler.
After finishing the build and installing Windows 11 Pro x64 build 23H2, the audio from the speakers was quite weak. I had to increase the volume above 75% just to hear the startup sound. Music and movies played normally but with a weak output from the motherboard. The monitor’s sound was better, louder, though of poor quality—this is why I don’t use it anymore!
Yada, yada, yada. I went back to my Gen13 build and am swapping everything for the Gen14 version (big mistake, unrelated to this project).
Today I replaced the new PSU with a Corsair RM1200i SHIFT and returned to my Corsair AX1200i PSU. After rebooting, the sound came back at full volume. How is that possible?
I’m sending back the motherboard, saying it’s damaged (low sound). I’m still returning the Gen14 build because of other problems. Absolutely returning the SHIFT PSU—great idea, but poor execution. I don’t like the type 5 PSU connectors!
How does a power supply affect audio quality?
I’m sure everything was connected properly, since one of the PCI plugs snapped a wire during the final checks.
Just asking.

another power supply unit isn't likely connected to your issue
the gap between the case and motherboard could be the cause
what method were you using to connect the speakers?
it's possible the drivers were added right after restarting the system
