Who is playing Quake Champions ?
So our go to game with my cousin has been UT for 20 years.. anyhow we play Unreal Tournament Alpha ,,,,,,, and its nice. I have been through wolfenstein, then doom and quake 1 and 2 and 3 Arena. We never liked Quake because the graphics were all brown and ugly and not comparible to the thick graphics and amazing maps of UT99 and what not. UT3 was nice,,.. I new they had a new Quake long time ago but I didnt bother I new it would be a brown engine again as Quake 3 was. Anyhow luckily somehow through web site I saw it say Quake Champions for Free ,,,, off steam ..... So I sorta gave it a chance. It blew me away,,,, sick ass game guys..... now we dont UT anymore and Q instead.
The characters, the abilities the shaders and loot and blood gore is sick and soo fun.... graphics pown,,, UT is fantasy this is more reality... the weapons, I mean the game is soo polished alto they keep updating it which I have no problem with.. I actually bought it so I can have a option to setup custom game to play 1v1 with my cousin. Also I don't think its free anymore. Im 41 years old and I think this game is not too popular because old Quakers are not 40's in age ,,, and new generation is all over fortnite and war games... sighs
Yeah, but at the end of the day Fortnite is a game for kids. Q has some violent elements. Not suitable for 13-year-olds and younger. It's an engaging game, but definitely not appropriate for that age group. Their main audience is teenagers or younger kids. Quake also contains violent scenes, which isn't good for children.
I logged around 60 hours in QC this year. I believe it's a solid base game that was ruined by poor netcode and its overly intense difficulty.
I'm a veteran of Quake and UT (33 years old), and even after spending 10-15 hours getting used to QC, it remains a tough challenge.
It's comparable to modern FPS titles with complex RTS elements like StarCraft 2—you have to push yourself hard to enjoy it.
Most players avoid it because QC is struggling, and the shrinking community leads to bad matchmaking. This often results in lopsided games where newcomers are easily outmatched by experienced players.
This situation has pushed QC into a declining phase, with only about 1300 players online on a Sunday evening.
At this point, I doubt any meaningful changes can reverse the game's downward trend. For the shooter genre, I hope Doom Eternal's multiplayer will outperform Doom 2016 in popularity and quality.
Well, people are silly, those 1300 folks are smart. I think those war games are really bad... They took away UT and Quake players. But honestly, based on what I've experienced, Quake Champions is definitely the best FPS game ever. That's FPS, meaning a fighting game. COD, BF, Fortnite, etc... Quake Alpha is also great and beats those games that are so bad.
I still find QC team deathmatch superior to other formats, but I prefer D2 because it lets me play whenever I want without facing highly skilled opponents. If I were younger and had more time and energy to improve, QC might have been more rewarding.
Doom Eternal’s multiplayer is being created by a separate team compared to the one behind Doom 2016, which seems to have produced a less engaging PvP experience. I hope they can create a more relaxed competitive mode that remains enjoyable even for players who struggle with the game.
I played for a while but now rely on a steam controller because of my setup, so I had to let go...
HUMILIATION
I tried it for a few weeks and was really disappointed, losing about 95% of the time. I’m used to it in Quake at least and expected a similar level, but this one was much harder. I only found one-on-one matches, which I’m not very good at. I was hoping for a direct match but it took too long, and even then we were beaten 75% of the time. I managed to play those games most of the time, but it just lost its appeal.
