Which XP release is best for you?
Hello, I’m planning to set up Windows XP (X) on four Asus F5GL laptops. Each has an Intel T1600 processor, 1.66GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM at 800MHz, and an NVIDIA 8200M chipset. I’m curious which version of XP performs best for heavy gaming, especially titles like GTA SA, NFS, and Delta Force. Since these games don’t require constant internet access, I’m considering a free AVG update to keep things running smoothly. I’ve heard recommendations for XP Pro SP2 32-bit, but I tried Windows 8 and it’s fast but struggles with gaming due to missing drivers. Windows 7 uses more RAM than 8, which could be a drawback. I’m not keen on Windows 7, but if it outperforms any other XP version, I’d love to understand why. Thanks!
You're referring to W7 Ulti on x64? That's what everyone is using these days. Sorry, my language isn't English. From what I see, all of them are running W7 Ulti. x64, and it looks like none can manage more than 5 tabs or two YouTube videos at once. Games are... well, that's a bit frustrating.
There's no comparison. XP 64 is crap. XP 32 is memory bound to less than 4 gb of memory. Win 7 64 is the only way to go. As soon as I typed that I had a thought... it hurt. What drivers do you have. These are laptops. If all you have is XP drivers you have no choice. XP only.
It includes Windows XP, Vista 32.64 and Windows 7 32.64. However, I believe I’ll go with Home Premium instead.
Install XP Pro SP3 and it should handle everything smoothly. It functions adequately for older applications and basic browsing, though it's quite outdated. The main security comes from the browser you select, and newer versions of Firefox or Chrome still perform well on this system. Just stay safe while browsing within the 3.25GB RAM capacity!
