Choose the most affordable option. A mix is ideal. Excessively high MHz limits RAM performance, while a low CL forces higher CAS latency settings, leading to wasted investment.

If the cost gaps are minor, consider the smaller 2x model; you can upgrade later if needed. Previously it was tougher to add more RAM sticks for better performance, but I’m not sure that’s still true. (I own 4x and OCed and never experienced major problems.)
