The 5800x is a bit expensive for my budget, so I’ll look into Intel options. With the next generation coming soon, purchasing now doesn’t look like the ideal choice.
Wait for Rocket Lake, it's near. If I recall, 11700K is quicker than 5800X and there are rumors it's cheaper for around 350 dollars. If true, AMD might be in serious trouble. Don't go for the i9 11900K—it's just a weak CPU compared to the 11700K with eight cores and 16 threads. Consider getting an 11400F which could be faster at the same price as the 10400F.
This is the biggest problem. WAITING. You have to balance the point of waiting for the next best thing and when you want/need to build. Granted LOW (and I mean LOW [at least in the USA]) stock has everyone basically waiting right now. I just hope this changes by summer 2022, when I have to build my daughter's college computer. (SFF for graphic arts/light gaming).
Checking the HDMI connection on the motherboard. I'll keep an eye on RocketLake, but I'm hoping it won't be as demanding in games compared to AMD options.
It's really frustrating when so many great products come out lately—like the RTX 3000 and 5000 series CPUs from AMD. Everyone seems eager to upgrade, which is great, but scalpers are making things even more stressful. If not for them, there would still be a lot of waiting, but they’ve just made it worse.
