Which RAM should I get For AMD 3950x?
I'm looking at a new build and deciding on the right RAM for my Ryzen 5 3950X. I'm considering the Trident Z Neo or RGB options, but I'm not sure. Which one would be better? Thanks!
Selecting the ideal model involves reviewing specifications and frequency details to ensure optimal performance.
He said it’s about how you present yourself versus what you show. I own that processor and during the building stage I aimed to boost performance first. I chose a 3600 MHz CL16. After that, I expanded my search. I have the Neo with 16-16-16-36 specs. The main reason for picking Neo was that at the time of buying RAM, it was slightly more affordable with those particular numbers. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on that brand. Don’t misunderstand, I prefer the Trident Neo heat spreader’s appearance over the RGB version, and it has worked well. But if I could have matched similar speeds from Corsair at a lower cost, I might have chosen that instead. That would have let me save money for other parts. In short: Stick to your budget, prioritize performance as much as possible, then pick the best option within it.
I was caught up in a long session and fell asleep, so I don’t have a fixed budget—probably around 6000. Initially, I considered Corsair RAM, but then realized G.Skill offers better performance and lower prices while providing superior timing. It seems that the newer generation actually outperforms the RGB model with a Ryzen 3*. For your situation, I’d suggest looking into mid-range options from brands like Crucial or Kingston, which balance cost and quality well.
I’d aim for 3600 MHz since that’s regarded as the optimal frequency for the infinity fabric and the best settings I could realistically get. Regarding Neo, it seems to perform better, but I can’t confirm it’s specifically tuned for Ryzen. It appears they mainly provide optimized timings for fast DIMMs. They’ve confirmed compatibility with their platform, whereas the regular Trident Z RGB doesn’t seem to have that advantage. Personally, I haven’t encountered any significant problems using Trident Z RGB. Ultimately, the decision hinged on budget and appearance. I prefer the Neo’s heat spreader and saved money by choosing it. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with my Neo setup and would give it a thumbs up. Full disclosure: I also own an Intel-based system with Trident Z RGB, which I support as well. G.Skill delivers quality, that’s what matters most to me.
