Which ram kit is better?
He upgraded his RAM and lent me his old unit to keep or sell. I own a crucial ballistix 3200MHz setup, but I learned that 3600MHz is ideal for Ryzen 5000 chips. Should I swap it out or leave it? The faster the clock, the looser the timing—my current kit runs at 16-18-18-36 while yours are 18-22-22-42 (other specs match Ryzen 5 5600, RX 6600, TUF B550M plus).
Slower clocks are preferable. Faster speeds are advantageous. However, the latter configuration at 3600MT/s with different registers seems superior. I generally attempt to push overclocks and reduce clock speeds when feasible, though it's a bit time-consuming, but it provides slightly improved performance.
3600CL18 offers a slight edge over 3200CL16, though they’re practically identical in performance. The numbers match, and as mentioned before... speed shines on one model while quickness excels on another. I’d pick the 3600 unless you prefer the Crucial’s design. They’re so close that style matters here.
They have RGB lighting, which makes them quicker. Nice gaming effects.
You could test both kits to determine which performs better. In practice, the differences are usually minor and won’t matter much. The 3600 CL18 setup may run slightly quicker due to its higher FCLK and nearly balanced timing, but since your single CCD Ryzen 5000 CPUs aren’t typically limited by FCLK or memory speed, the gap is minimal. If one kit is dual rank while the other isn’t, the dual-rank version should be faster. Also, the Crucial kit tends to overclock easily and should handle settings like 3800 CL16 smoothly, making it the likely faster option.
It's not uncommon for programs to freeze or stop responding after a short reading period, especially if the file is large or the system is under strain. Checking your hardware and software might help resolve the issue.
You can use both kits without worrying about compatibility issues. For better performance, try running at 3800-4000 MHz or whatever your maximum clock speed reaches.
