Hello to all. I’m using two Gskill TridentZ 2x16GB CL16 memory kits, giving me a total of 4x16GB. The first kit is Samsung B die, the second is Hynix A Die. Online discussions suggest CL14 kits might offer better performance. They mention a DRAM ratio of 1:1:1 as optimal. Could swapping my RAM improve things? Would it be worthwhile? Which memory setup would be more suitable for me? My current components include an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, an Asus Rog Crosshair VIII, a ZOTAC Rtx2060 mini, two XPG SX8200Pro SSDs, a Be Quiet Straightpower 11 850W PSU, and a Be Quiet SilentBase 802 white case. If you already possess a Samsung B-die, simply adjust it to the desired speeds. Achieving 3600MT/s with CL14 shouldn't pose much of a challenge on the B-die. Typically 16GB sticks with tight timings are dual rank B-Die. I’m not sure about others since I only know my setup. That’s up to you. My 3200C14 stays stable at 4200 C15, 4400 C16. I don’t know if yours will perform that well. But I’m not saying it won’t either. To be honest, I can’t handle more than 1900 with 4 sticks using this CPU and still stay stable. I also can’t run 4 sticks faster than 1833 on my 5600X and maintain stability. However, with 2 sticks my 5600X remains stable at 2000 and can hit 2100. For AMD, you could try, but I wouldn’t. It doesn’t make sense unless you can slow things down and tighten the timing.
CL14 offers better performance, but in typical workloads the difference may be negligible. Focus should be on achieving the optimal balance between cost and performance, rather than just raw speed. I see your point. It makes sense to purchase 3600Mhz CL14 RAM. AMD suggests 3733Mhz, but memory at that speed is limited. With the kits I have, I can't use them as CL14, so I believe buying 3600Mhz CL14 is the best choice.
