Hello everyone. Simple question, I'm assembling a machine exclusively for gaming, and I have to choose between these 2 CPUS: INTEL Core i7 9700K 3.6 GHz 8 cores 8 threads AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6 cores 12 threads The budget is strict, for example I know there's the 3600X variant, but it goes outside my budget. I'd like to specify the machine would be exclusively for gaming, and it would be paired with 16GB of DDR4 3000MHz ram and an RTX 3060TI 8GB GDDR5 (attached to a 4K LG HDR display). Planning on playing at reconstructed 4K (via DLSS) 60fps, or native for non demanding games. I plan to have this machine until 2023. Consider I'm also thinking of a long term plan, so maybe it would be better for me to invest in the AM4 socket, so that perhaps I could upgrade the CPU at a later stage. I'm mostly curious to know if 8 cores 8 threads would be better than 6 cores but 12 threads. Thank you very much

This means future upgrades can still deliver strong performance. While the 9700k excels in frame rates, the overall experience will be superior with AMD's approach.

Considering the AM4 socket might be a better choice. It offers flexibility for future upgrades despite a slight performance dip today. For your micro ATX project, Ryzen CPUs tend to generate less heat, which is helpful with compact cases. The 3600 can handle a decent overclock from 3.8 GHz to 4GHz.
