Which PC configuration is presently superior: Intel or AMD for gaming?
Greetings,
I've taken a break from PC building recently and am surprised by all the advancements I’ve seen since my initial build several years back. The types of games I plan to play will primarily be single-player titles like heavily modified Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4. My first computer was an AMD setup, featuring an FX-8350 processor, which performed poorly with a significantly altered New Vegas—the game originally utilized only two cores without any .ini modifications.
I'm currently working on an Intel configuration, beginning with the i9-9900K, prioritizing high processing speeds over options like the Ryzen 2700X. While I’ve heard that Ryzen processors offer excellent value, I'm questioning their suitability for my intended gaming style. Some suggest investing in a Ryzen system and allocating the savings to a superior graphics card, but I believe a GTX 1070 would be a solid choice and allow for future upgrades. I haven't constructed an AMD system yet, but I believe $2000 is a reasonable price point considering Intel systems from years prior.
I welcome your opinions and any relevant suggestions.
The optimal choice hinges on the specific games being played and the resolution at which they’ll be experienced, alongside your intended graphics card selection. For mid-range GPUs, a random decision is suitable; however, when opting for premium GPUs, Intel is generally recommended, particularly if maintaining a 1080P display with a focus on high frame rates.
