Be mindful. The issue stems from having a device that's older than the capabilities of the model @BlueChinchillaEatingDorito. Certain white MacBooks support Mac OS X El Capitan, but not all do.
The Aluminum 2008 MacBook supports 10.11, not the white models. The white ones from 2008 cap at 10.7.5. A longer run on 10.7 might work, but Linux seems like a better choice for the future.
Choose a straightforward Linux distribution. OS X 10.7 isn’t compatible with Chrome or other current browsers, which means you’ll face greater security risks.
