I've been using 7 for a while now, but I tried the Windows 10 preview and really liked it. I plan to buy Windows 10 once it's fully available, but what should I use in the meantime? Windows 7 is excellent, but I appreciate the modern feel of 10 and am familiar with how 8.1 performs. However, I don't like the interface of 8.1 much and have heard many complaints about it, comparing it unfavorably to Vista and the usual changes Windows makes every couple of years. I also know you can upgrade 8.1 to resemble 7, which would improve game performance. I’m aiming for an OS that matches my positive experience with 10, so I’ll stick with 7 if it’s the best choice. If 8.1 turns out better, I’ll switch once the interface feels more user-friendly. Either way, I’m just trying to figure this out. Thanks in advance!

Use Windows 8 since it runs a bit quicker. Enable Classic Shell for a start menu, and you’ll have a better chance of landing on Windows 10 for free.

Keep 10 preview, there's no reason to spend money on a copy of 8.1 for just a couple of months. If you don't want to use 10 use 7. Just don't buy a 70$ os just to swap it out for a new one so quickly.

It seems unlikely, though it's likely around the first quarter of 2015. Even if it were later in the year, buying a full OS for several months wouldn't seem worthwhile.

I kept wanting to maintain ten, but others advised against it as the main operating system. I’m okay with that, though. It’s fine for me, but there’s a risk it might crash and erase all my files.

If 10 is the free upgrade for eight users, it doesn't matter. If not, I'm in.

No problem, you can install all three operating systems on your SSD.

Windows 8.1 performs quite well. Although I appreciate using it, Win7 was a reliable operating system. I’m excited about the release of Windows 10.
