The Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics lineup is already available. A Core i7 7700K should perform well with a GTX 1080Ti, avoiding any significant slowdowns. Are you facing any speed problems with your CPU? Unless, I should note that 4th-gen Ryzen desktops aren’t yet accessible (they’re only on mobile/laptop models)?

2nd gen RTX is understandable, especially with the price drop. It makes sense to focus on the 4th gen when it becomes available. Your 3000 MHz RAM should handle the workload well without major issues.

The i7 isn't better than the i9. Make sure you're not confusing the HEDT i9 with the others. The lower cache ratio in HEDT affects its performance compared to mainstream chips. Comet Lake might be worth the effort if you're into overclocking.

Processors from the same generation perform best together. For instance, an Intel Core i7 7700K runs faster than a similar 7th generation model like the Core i5 7600K. A second-generation i7 would lag behind a 10th generation i3 or even older generations. Using high-end servers or workstations would also underperform compared to standard desktop CPUs, which rely on fewer high-speed cores.
