Consider your needs carefully. Both the Z790 AORUS MASTER and ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO are solid options, but ensure you check their latest reviews for reliability. ASUS is known for good build quality and strong warranty support. Regarding RAM, 64GB at 7200Mhz with XMP is achievable on these boards if your motherboard supports it. Always verify compatibility before purchasing.

Have you considered a 2DIMM board similar to the Z6/790 dark? It would help for better performance, especially with dual-rank DDR5. You won’t achieve stable 7200 MHz without significant tuning. It’s better to opt for a more affordable 5600C46 JEDEC kit and push it to 7200 if you really want it. For high capacity, 128GB works fine at 4000 MHz. If speed is your goal but you’re limited to 48GB (two 24GB modules), you’ll need a dual-DIMM OC board to reach over 6800 reliably. Just reach out to @RONOTHAN for insights on DDR5 and OC experience.

So you think just boosting the clock speed is the way to go? Maybe it’s better to get a full overclock setup and match the same RAM specifications. Using someone else’s reference could work, but do you really need that much performance? Honestly, I’d prefer a dual 4TB Gen4 drive instead of a 2TB Gen5.

My standard for speeds is around 6400 for single rank setups (2x16GB or 2x24) and 6000 for dual rank (2x32 or 2x48). You can adjust manually if needed, but tuning higher speeds usually means settling for a lower-rated unit. For best results, opt for a lower-spec kit rather than risking performance when you fine-tune it yourself. Save money by choosing a more affordable option that still supports XMP and works effectively at 6800.

What kind of RAM should you purchase? 64GB DDR5 with RGB lighting and XMP support is suitable.

They should all perform similarly in terms of compatibility. Focus on finding the most affordable option available right now. In the US, the recommended model is the G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (F5-6000J3040G32GA2-TZ5RS) from PCPartPicker.
