Which motherboard out of the three?
Three options were considered for replacing your ASRock AM4 board: MSI B550 Gaming Plus, Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 AX, and Asrock B550 Steel Legend. Based on your budget and needs, these are the top picks.
I’d choose the MSI B550 Gaming Plus—it’s the top pick among the three and a really strong platform. That said, each one will perform just fine! Once installed, you won’t be able to distinguish which board you have, as none of them are particularly bad.
I have the Elite, it's great. Tech Deals recommends the Steel Legend all the time, and I trust his judgement. And the MSI is popular. So all 3 have a thumbs up from me.
I’d likely choose the Steel Legend mainly due to the POST code, even though the absence of BIOS Flashback is disappointing for certain CPUs. It’s worth noting why you’re replacing your motherboard—this isn’t common and might not be worthwhile unless you plan a future upgrade.
The board faces some memory slot and front power delivery problems, but otherwise it runs fine. I'm offering it at a low price to someone who will return it for repair and use it. Because I already have an AMD GPU, I won't upgrade yet, and I'll skip the first generation of AM5 so they can get a bit more stable before moving to the next one.
The process of returning Asrock is too slow, so I’d rather purchase another motherboard instead of waiting. By matured I mean there are still some issues present, which is typical for any new platform, especially with the upcoming AM4 X3D CPU releases. I require a highly reliable system for my work, which this Asrock has provided me over the past few years.
I agree with your assessment. Although my build has been solid with the 7700X, AORUS Pro AX, and G. Skill RAM, we've encountered some problems from others. Right now, I'm more inclined toward Corsair over AM5 since they seem to be falling short in some areas.
Hello, in your Aorus motherboard the LEDs under the VRM heatsink briefly flash when power is applied. In your experience, they light up white for a short moment before turning orange once the PC starts. I saw this during a disassembly and noticed two LEDs close to the flashback button.
