Which monitor do you prefer: one or two?
It's great to hear! You're definitely making progress on that goal, and thanks for sharing!
I now use a 27-inch 4K and a 24-inch 1080p screen in portrait orientation. I switched from horizontal to portrait after adjusting for desk space, and it works well for coding or document work.
Usually we stick to four items, but we’re focusing on getting two of each. That’s the main reason we’re doing this.
I have two 27-inch 1440p displays, and the available desktop area is incredibly generous. Having two full, wide windows open—like one for streaming and another for reading or chatting—is perfect. There’s also ample space to run monitoring tools, chat interfaces, file explorers, and more. At this stage, if I were told I had to switch to a single monitor, there would be no solution. I’d probably go for something extreme like a 32:9 ultra-wide model or even a 40-inch 4K screen. I thought about swapping my current 144Hz TN panel for a newer, higher-performance model, but it seems technology hasn’t advanced enough for me to consider alternatives. Most VA panels struggle with the required response times to match their refresh rates, and while the LG IPS monitor looks good, its contrast isn’t impressive. Plus, there’s no real HDR available in the price range I’m targeting. I’ve been using this configuration for over two years, and I suspect it will stay that way unless one of my monitors fails (in which case I might upgrade to the LG IPS model).
I really enjoy it. I often split my 27" display into two sections for tasks like research and email, or similar setups. I find myself thinking about borrowing the 15.6" screen from an old laptop to stay above my 27" when I need fullscreen viewing for games or work.
