Which is more suitable for your needs: desktop or laptop?
I own an alienware laptop, purchased it for GPU upgrades via the amplifier. After several years, I needed better performance since my old machine only had a Geforce 970m and couldn’t handle modern games at the graphics I wanted. I upgraded with an amplifier and an MSI RTX 2080 Ti, which required some modifications to the case and power supply. While a 2080 Ti now lets me play 4K games smoothly, I still face issues with certain titles at full settings. I’m weighing whether the upgrade is worth it or if building a new system would be more beneficial. The cost of the GPU and related upgrades feels high compared to the marginal performance gains—around 10-20 frames per second might be all I need. If I go for an I9 desktop, the RTX would offer noticeable but not dramatic improvements.
You'll gain a lot with a desktop setup featuring the RTX graphics card. If you can afford it, go for it. If not, your existing configuration is perfectly fine.
The budget isn't the main concern here, although it will definitely help. Spending a lot just for a small performance boost doesn't seem worth it—like $1000 for only a 10-20 fps increase wouldn't justify it. But if it promises around 60 FPS, I'd be more likely to consider it.
