Some guys, quick question—just learned about XMP clocking on my 32GB RAM (8GB x 4), but couldn’t get it working. I have two different brands, took one set out and now XMP works, letting me use up to 3200MHz and 16GB RAM. Now I’m thinking whether to stick with 32GB at 2400MHz or switch to 16GB at 3200MHz until I find another matching set. Also curious about feedback—it’s for gaming 😀 Cheers

mixing RAM isn't always ideal, but having a 32 gigabit model works well.

more RAM is usually better than faster RAM unless you're running a Ryzen CPU. You probably won't be able to turn on XMP because having four channels of 8GB memory increases the load on the memory controller, especially when XMP is active. I suggest using two 16GB sticks and then enabling XMP.

Absolutely, that's exactly what I was considering. When you plan to upgrade the RAM, would it be wise to opt for two 16GB modules?

I would definitely choose 2 16gb sticks since 16gb represents the latest 8gb standard, which is now required for certain titles.

It's a trade-off situation. More RAM doesn't always improve performance, and pure speed isn't the only factor. Consider this: having 4 sticks of 16GB is meaningless if the clock speed is just 2666MHz—it won’t help much in games or demanding tasks. The same applies to speed; 16GB at 3600MHz gives decent results until you run out of that memory. Heavy usage will consume it quickly and slow things down. Prioritize speed since you can upgrade later when needed. Going for the full 32GB now won’t fix the issue, and mixing speeds isn’t ideal—stick to one model if possible.

Having more VRAM on the GPU improves game performance. Latency and speed of VRAM are usually better than regular RAM. Therefore, memory speed matters more for gaming than just capacity if the game doesn't require much RAM.
