Can PlayStation buttons be displayed using a Sony PS4 Controller instead of an Xbox controller within games?

Many Steam titles accommodate Xbox controllers. Because Steam offers built-in DS4 compatibility, a PS4 controller could function on these Xbox-compatible games, though the controls would appear as Xbox prompts. Certain games do support DS4 and feature PlayStation prompts. Below is a list of those supported DS4 games...

I enjoy PlayStation 4, but you should determine which one suits you best.

Because Xbox and Windows 10 originate from the same organization—Microsoft—they frequently function more seamlessly. This doesn’t imply that PlayStation 4 will perform poorly; compatibility and the manufacturer play a role. As an instance, Razer’s Therester for PlayStation 4 also operates on personal computers.

Can I use a Sony PS4 Controller instead of an Xbox to display PlayStation buttons within games?

Many Steam titles recognize Xbox controllers. Because Steam has built-in DS4 compatibility, a PS4 controller could function in these Xbox-compatible games, though they would present Xbox controls. Certain games do offer DS4 support and feature PlayStation controls. Here’s a list of supported DS4 games:

There are some methods to display PlayStation buttons in games that lack this support, but these are generally complex and often impractical.

Regarding whether to use an Xbox controller or a PS4 controller, I suggest the Xbox controller due to its broader game compatibility and its preferred size by most users. Furthermore, if you intend to play first-person shooter games, I wouldn't advise using a controller; players would have a significant advantage because aiming is much simpler with a mouse and keyboard. Conversely, racing games are better suited for controllers, and you’ll likely find them more comfortable to operate with one.

I exclusively employ a PlayStation 4 controller when gaming on my personal computer, and I dedicate a significant amount of time to PC gaming. I’ve simply never been fond of Microsoft controllers or their input devices, likely stemming from my childhood spent playing PlayStation 1 titles. I haven't encountered any difficulties getting games to function with my PS4 controller; however, the majority of games still utilize Xbox commands. Certain titles will recognize the controller as a PlayStation 4 device and adjust the controls accordingly. For those games that don’t automatically change, there are readily available modifications to swap the Xbox prompts for PlayStation 4 prompts. Typically, this involves simply replacing a single file.
