Which is better, a GTX 2080 or an i7-8086k for upgrading?
I want to upgrade my computer’s main components soon, but I'm uncertain about the best way forward. Right now, I’m using a 6700K processor and a 1070 graphics card, which has performed adequately for my 1080p gaming. However, newer, expansive games – particularly those that interest me – are beginning to strain my current hardware. My primary concern is that my motherboard is becoming outdated; any processor beyond the i7-8086 will necessitate a new board, adding to the cost of an upgrade. For now, I’d like to invest in a single component. Should I opt for the 2080, which would provide a substantial improvement, or should I prioritize upgrading my central processing unit first? Considering that I don’t intend to replace my motherboard for several more years, this presents a choice between upgrading one component or the other.
Despite various factors, Intel refrained from formally updating the socket designation, consequently leading vendors to maintain the existing naming convention. Processors from the 8th and 9th generations utilize the LGA 1151 v2 socket type.
Remarkably, it appears in 1511 but is only found through searches on Newegg. Thank you for the information! That certainly alters my perspective somewhat.
