Which Intel CPU for gaming?
Hey everyone! I’m using an R5 3600 and was considering upgrading to Intel processors like the i7 10700KF, 11700KF or i9 10900F. I noticed the performance gap between those options isn’t too big, and I’d need around 1200 MB of RAM. The GPU and AI cooler should work fine, and I think the PSU specs are similar enough.
I would choose 10700KF, though the i9 10900F seems appealing too.
You're okay with a solid CPU such as the 3600. Either move it up to 5800x+ right away or hold off until DDR5 platforms arrive.
I understand your situation. You're considering 10700KF and an RTX 2070 Super for BF2042 on your Series X. It seems you're looking to upgrade from your daily gaming setup but want to explore what Intel offers. Upgrading to a better CPU is an option, though it's worth noting that Intel is currently more affordable in your country compared to AMD. Your main goal is stable performance, so focusing on that will be key.
The eight cores are simpler to manage. The drawback is that unless you have a 3070 Ti or higher, the upgrade isn't significant. The gap between the 10th and 11th generation lies in IPC, which mainly matters in games with heavy content like Space Engineers or Minecraft, where you can push more before performance drops. The i9 10900k also offers strong IPC but needs overclocking or TVB to match the 11th gen or Ryzen 5000. For gaming, I’d recommend the 11700KF; for productivity, a 10-core setup is better.
Switch to a 5900X model would be straightforward. Expected cost remains similar, but you may need powerful motherboards if you intend to run without power restrictions.
