Which GPU is better for this GTX 1060 or this RX 480? (Palit vs XFX)
Which GPU is better for this GTX 1060 or this RX 480? (Palit vs XFX)
These are the details of my current setup:
CPU: AMD FX 4350 4.3GHz OC (currently not updated)
Motherboard: M5A97 EVO R2.0
Memory: HyperX FURY Series 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz CL10
Storage: WD 1TB Black Drive 7200 RPM
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R7 250 OC 2GB GDDR5
Case: Corsair Spec-03 Orange
Additional components: Network card and Blu-ray R/W
Power Supply: Aerocool MOD XT 750W
Other devices: Blu-Ray R/W drive + Network card
Upgrade plans: intend to replace CPU with FX-8350 or FX-9590 later. I’ve selected two options:
Palit 1060 6GB super jetstream

XFX RX 480 GTR triple X edition

I’m considering whether to invest in CrossfireX for an extra 480 MHz or to sell the 1060 later for a new single card (1080). I’m looking for the best price-to-performance ratio and understand that 480 crossfire is currently strong but may improve with future updates.
Only these two cards are relevant. I’m working within a tight budget and aiming for the best value around £250, which is what these models cost now.
MrYorkiebar:
The GTX 1060 is leading the way, ZEN appears to be a strong contender, and AMD seems to offer the best value for CPU performance in previous models. I'm likely supporting CPU for Red and GPU for Green.
They really are the way to go, it matches their long-term goals.
Just keep an eye on a few more months, hold on your 4350 until a new Zen model arrives.
I can confidently say the GTX 1060 will keep you engaged until then.
It's tough to predict if they'll resolve the graphical problems with SLI/CrossFire, but I think a better card is more dependable than two weaker ones. My vote goes to the GTX 1060. I own one too and find it an amazing card, which is another reason. It can push any game to 1080p.
If you ever want something better, the 1070 or 1080 are available. I wouldn't suggest going AMD right now, especially not the FX series. ZEN is coming in Christmas, so I'd wait if you were me. But if you're looking to upgrade now, Intel Skylake is a solid choice—it outperforms most AMD options at the moment. Even with changes to your MOBO and RAMs, it still offers good value compared to AMD's FX or Ax lines.

Thanks for the GTX 1060, it's leading the way. ZEN looks promising, and AMD seems to offer the best value for CPU performance in past generations. I'm probably Team Red for CPU and Team Green for GPU.
